BUĞRA EROL

Buğra Erol is a multidisciplinary artist. He chooses his artistic form, technique, and medium according to the needs of each idea. His practice spans paintings, drawings, three-dimensional objects, installations, videos, and street art. He works with photographic images of everyday scenes, transforming them through strange interventions, using deformation and alienation. His works often place familiar figures, objects and situations in absurd or fragmented settings, creating a tension between reality and imagination. He also works with found images, archives and materials that carry their own histories. In his lightbox works, discarded photographic slides are layered into new images, while his Banner Series transforms banners from environmental actions into abstract paintings. His experience as an environmental activist remains an important part of his artistic practice. Buğra Erol is a multidisciplinary artist working across painting, drawing, three-dimensional objects, installation, video, and street art. He chooses his medium according to the needs of each idea. His work often involves transforming everyday photographic images, archival material, and found objects. Through deformation and unexpected interventions, he places familiar figures and situations in absurd or fragmented settings, creating tension between reality and imagination.

His experience as an environmental activist informs his artistic practice, particularly his examination of environmental harm and its psychological and socio-political dimensions. His work also explores personal memory, surreal situations, and broader questions of human existence.

Born in Adana, Turkey, in 1986, Erol studied Fine Arts at Yeditepe University in Istanbul. He lives and works in Berlin, where he is assistant at Studio Olafur Eliasson and the founder of Scratch Berlin, an independent artist-run space.
